Candico Fairtrade labelIn 1997, Candico launches its organic range and starts in 2002 with the selling of fairtrade cane sugar. On 1 October 2008, all products of Candico are sold under the Fairtrade Max Havelaar certificate.


Raffinerie Tirlemontoise has been working towards a sustainable future for more than 175 yearsIn this period, Raffinerie Tirlmeontoise is highly inventive. In 2007, RT launches sugar in a Tetra Pak and in 2009 the icing sugar mill is introduced. During all these years, we have continued to invest in a sustainable sugar beet culture and in our relations with the farmers. We have also realized different environmental issues: a diminution of the use of soil water, we use 50% less pesticides than in 1980 and our CO2 emissions go down each year. Biowanze, producer of biofuels, sees the day

In the beginning of the 21st century, RT Group invests 250 million Euros into the world’s most advanced new generation bio ethanol plant, BioWanze. A plant that is almost totally self-sufficient in its energy production, thereby reducing its CO2 footprint with over 70% compared to fossil fuels. Joined forces for an expansion of our sugar specialties!

In 2010, Candico and Lebbe are integrated totally into RT Group. That way, everything is set to produce unique Belgian sugar specialties. At Lebbe Sugar Specialties in Oostkamp, tailor-made industrial products like Fondant, Sugarpaste,… are manufactured. The traditional candy sugars from Candico are introduced in 2013 in the United States of America. Since that same year, you can find sugar specialties of Raffinerie Tirlemontoise in Egypt and Singapore!

Since 2013 you can find in supermarkets a product of Raffinerie Tirlemontoise for the first time outside of the sugar rack: the sugar paste T Cake Fantasy is launched for creative consumers who love to decorate pastry. In 2014, Raffinerie Tirlemontoise launches a sugar cube of less than 1Kcal: Ti’1, and introduces a new packaging for Candico’s brown candy sugar: the doypack.
