Presse release – Companies in Tienen investing in young people’s development
Tienen – 26/10/2017
The T-Competence Center is welcoming 40 sixth-year students in the context of the ‘DO Days’ organized by VDAB, the public employment service of Flanders, and Het Beroepenhuis. They will be participating in various workshops to gain insight into and become acquainted with the real working world.
In March 2017, Raffinerie Tirlemontoise, TMS Industrial Services, Affilips, and VDAB entered into an engagement for the further development of ‘on-the-job learning’ for occupational training in the Tienen region. Raffinerie Tirlemontoise believes in this type of occupational training and has opened up its professional learning centre, the “T- Competence Center”, at its Tienen location to VDAB. Today, this learning centre is welcoming a different public, but in the same context: to reduce the gap between education and the working world.
Four workshops for a varied ‘DO Day’
The students will participate in four workshops during this interactive day. There is also a cooking workshop on the agenda, in which the students from PISO Tienen will assist. They’ll be able to start working with sugar cubes, drills, and wire in the learning centre to make their own Raffinerie Tirlemontoise sugar-cube man. In addition, they’ll also learn to drive the bus and the importance of safety in the workplace will be highlighted. The students will continuously be assisted by experienced instructors.
The ‘DO Day’ is a VDAB initiative, in cooperation with Het Beroepenhuis, which has been organised since 2002. However, it is the first time that other organisations, such as Raffinerie Tirlemontoise, have participated in the project. There will be a total of 2,270 young people from the sixth year sent out to 36 different branches to spend a day out in the real working world. Plus, the practical experience will allow the students to discover hidden talents!
Together with TMS, Affilips, and VDAB, we hope that the T-Competence Center will be utilised even more in the future to help young people develop further in an actual working environment.
